Practical Machine Learning for Middle & High Schoolers
A hands-on AI experience guided by FAANG engineers
Organized by ElderMind Inc. | IRS 501(c)(3) Public Charity
🎯 Why This Program?
Today’s students are tomorrow’s tech leaders.
This program empowers middle and high schoolers with practical machine learning skills to explore, build, and launch real-world AI solutions—no prior experience in ML or AI required.
The program is structured in two parts:
- Foundations: A hands-on crash course in machine learning fundamentals. This is expected to take 20-30 hr of student’s time.
- Impact Phase: Students participate in an idea challenge, then implement their chosen solution to address a real-world problem. The program will provide access to necessary cloud resources and support for building web or mobile applications—students won’t need to set up their own cloud accounts. This is expected to take 20-60 hr of student’s time.
Projects focused on local community challenges and elder care innovations will be given priority.
📚 What You’ll Learn In The ML crash Course
- Core Machine Learning Models: Linear regression, Logistic regression, Classification
- Feature Engineering: Numeric and Categorical feature, generalization, data set balancing.
- Key Concepts: Gradient descent, back propagation, model tuning, fairness, Hidden Layer, Activation Function
- Advanced Topics: Neural networks, Reinforcement Learning, Natural Language Processing, Embeddings, LLMs (e.g. ChatGPT), AutoML,
- Real-World System Design: Understand pipelines, deployment, and ethical implications
